Goober's New Toy: The Sovereign State Movement

Posted by Pete Kotz on Thu, Mar 12, 2009 at 9:53 AM

If you just can't get enough weirdness from the Tennessee legislature, we offer the above video on the sovereign state movement, the latest in kook ideology sweeping the nation. As best as we can tell, an increasing number of goobers are pushing to declare their states free of from "socialist" nation that feels like "Stalinist Russia." Then again, they might just think it's cool to use smart-sounding words like "sovereign," even if they're not quite sure what it means.

So, leaving aside the somewhat horrifying end to that video, is states' sovereignty sorta like States' Rights? Are they proclaiming the right to, say, "nullify" federal laws? If so, that brings up some rather fascinating historical precedents.

I bet Stalin would have adored blogs. I also wonder, since he wasn't really Russian (he was Georgian), if there were those demanding to see his birth certificate.

Wow.."weirdness" "kooks" "goobers", that is exactly the response of the British toward the signers of the declaration of independence! Do you not know that the federal government was formed by, and exists at the convenience of the sovereign states... period. That is the truth. Lies cannot change history, only cause it to be repeated. Do not tread on the rights of our sovereign states and all is well brother.

Wonder how many other names you can think of to call patriot Americans? HHmmm...your vocabulary is lacking. You need to study American history. Yours is the attitude of the British before and during the Revolitionary War. Only afterwards when they realized the "ignorant commoners" weren't so ignorant did they "see" things in a different light. Wake up. Our rights as Americans aren't something we'll just hand over to anyone simply because they are good at name calling. Take your hands OFF our business!

It's "experts" like you, whom do not know the Constitution, will express "suprise" when the citizens revolt and take back the government - and revolt is coming.

The 10th Amendment clearly gives states sovereign rights. This is NOT a partisan issue; indeed the current wave of reaffirmations began under Bush and continue under Obama. In TN we're fortunate that our legislators are taking many stands re: our rights and the necessary limitation of the Federal government.

The Constitution allows for only one remedy to government excess - the ballot box. Take up arms against the duly elected government of the United States of America and sedition is your crime. Do not be surprised when the vast majority of Freedom loving Americans put you down.

Your tyranny is no better than that of kings and dictators.

The Constitution was written by men who knew a lot about many things - not just simple minded country boys who learned everything they need to know in Sunday School.
