Dell Layoffs Coming to Nashville and Lebanon Today

The Nashville Business Journal reported today that pink slips will proliferate among workers today at Dell's manufacturing plant in Lebanon and its distribution center in Nashville, which employ about 3,200 Middle Tennesseans.

A spokesman for Dell didn't specify how many, though he did say most would be notified by the end of the day.

Dell shuttered its desktop manufacturing division in Lebanon January, probably in response to a widespread aversion to the outmoded, space-hogging dinosaurs in favor of itty bitty laptops.

The cuts here are a part of a company-wide trimming, or, in weird business-speak, "right-sizing."

I wonder if they are getting a severance. I did when I jumped ship 2 years ago and encouraged my coworkers to follow me if they got the chance. Some did and some didn't.

I just purchased a Dell Inspiron from the Dell webiste and it came from their plant in Tennesse..the funny thing is that the computer has a sticker: Made in China..!!
Now I understand why Dell is laying off all their american workers...

To Jessica:
The parts are made in china, the laptops are assembled in the US

Laptops are not assembled in the US. The are simply reboxed and any extra components like a dock, mouse, documentation are added. There is no part at all of the assembly done in the US.
