Zach Wamp Fills the Role of Crazy Southern Goober on MSNBC Today

Posted by Pete Kotz on Thu, Mar 5, 2009 at 2:15 PM

Tennessee Congressman and would-be governor Zach Wamp was on MSNBC today to fill the ceremonial role of Crazy Southern Goober for the lefty network in a discussion on President Obama's health care plan. True to form, Wamp was able to invoke the word "socialism" within the first 10 seconds, and went on to cite "class warfare" and "illegal aliens" among the reasons we shouldn't trust Obama. Though public opinion is decidedly with the president in trying to make something happen, Wamp seems to believe the plan will cause the resurrection of Leon Trotzky. He argued that half of uninsured Americans don't even want health coverage. (Zach's apparently unfamiliar with the Too Broke To Afford It Demographic.) Yet when pressed for an alternative policy, our hero once again brought up... tax cuts. If you're looking for a breathtaking exercise in denial and unrepentant gooberism, Wamp puts on a stellar show. But if you're looking for something closer to reality, here's a better take on the problem from your own backyard. Update: The Wampster has quickly made himself the subject of national ridicule for today's appearance. Washington Monthly blows away much of his argument as simply untrue, saying "he clearly doesn't have the foggiest idea what he's talking about." Meanwhile, Wonkette is just content to make fun of him.

Comment of the week award goes to YesWeKant on Wonkette:
"Zack Wamp is the sound my head made when it exploded all over my keyboard while watching this idiot talk. Now who is going to clean this up? (Or would that be another sign of creeping socialism?)"
