Brace yourselves. Looks like we're in store for a new round of national ridicule as a state filled with racist hillbillies. Isn't that swell? The latest MTSU poll has only just been released and already the Huffington Post is up with this headline: "One In Six Tennesseans Admits To Telling Unfunny Racist Jokes About The President." MTSU poll director Ken Blake explains that he and his colleagues decided to quantify racial joke attitudes in Tennessee after our very own Chip Saltsman sent his "Barack the Magic Negro" CD to Republican National Committee members. Luckily, there's no mention of the state Republican Party's "blackbird mailer" or its press releases smearing Barack Obama. "It seems that Tennessee is awash in jokes about Obama's race even though most people say they don't tell them and most people say they don't find them funny," Blake says. For more on the poll, click here. And this comes on a day when Democratic strategist Robert Shrum called our governor a Neanderthal.

Meh. I wouldn't be too concerned.
Does anybody seriously think that the "one in six people" result is different in the rest of the country?
It's nothing to be proud of, but I'm skeptical that things are worse in Tennessee or better elsewhere.
