Move to Oust Democratic Party Treasurer Freeman Loses Steam

Democratic Party chair Chip Forrester has put down the rebellion against his hand-picked treasurer, Bill Freeman. One of Freeman's main antagonists on the party's executive committee, Larry Mullins, says he's giving up the fight. Mullins helped circulate a resolution calling for Freeman's ouster for his history of giving to Republicans. Asked last night what will come of the hubbub over Freeman's  contributions, Mullins told Pith, "Probably nothing. You don't want me to bullshit you, do you?"

No one asked for Freeman's resignation during an executive committee conference call at the height of the controversy. "When it came time to actually ask in that conference call, nobody asked him to step down," says Mullins, a Morristown farmer and businessman. "If the majority says this is acceptable, I guess I have to go along."

Committee members have complained that Forrester didn't tell them about Freeman's contributions at the time he recommended that they name Freeman as treasurer. Forrester's choice pissed off the governor's office in particular because Freeman gave to Phil Bredesen's Republican opponents in '02 and '06.

More Mullins: "My biggest problem is he worked against our governor when he was a sitting governor and put money against our governor when he was a sitting governor, and that's a big thing. I talked to Chip Forrester and he thought it was an OK thing. I just don't think there are enough people on the executive committee who are strong enough to stand up and do what's right."

Wow, so Mullins says the executive committee doesn't have the balls to "do what's right." Is anyone surprised?
The most shocking part of his comments is that he said Chipper approved of Freeman working against Bredesen. Is he insane?

Did Mullins say anything on the conference call?

Mullins might have to go along, but I and many, many rank and file Democrats don't. I won't support TNDP as long as a man that funded racist Republican attacks is its treasuerer.
Contrary to his promises, Chip is running the same old only money matters, backroom dealing Democratic Party. It breaks my heart.

So Chipper dispatched his shill, Braisted, to attack a member of the executive committee?

I'm sorry, where was the attack? It was a question the purpose of which was to ascertain a fuller understanding of the internal debate within the Exec Committee over Bill Freeman. According to Mullins, "When it came time to actually ask in that conference call, nobody asked him to step down," I'm just curious if that means everybody but him?

Aw, bullshit, Sean. Chipper has previously dispatched you to the blogs to attack the executive committee for not asking if the man he nominated to be TNDP treasurer was in fact a major Republican contributor. As if that should be a standard question for a party treasurer.
You were attempting to attack Mullins for, in Chipper's spin, not doing his job.
Why don't you answer a more important question, Sean: why didn't Chipper tell the executive committee that Freeman is a Republican?

What does Chip get by continuing this fight with Bredesen? Why would he say it's okay to oppose his re-election?

I don't understand why its such a big deal to ask the author of the article if Mr. Mullins brought up Freeman on the call? Why does everything have to result in an attack/flame war?

Sorry, Sean, feined innocence if you ask me.
Come on, though, tell us whether Chipper is incompetent or dishonest. Why are you afraid to answer?

How can I feign ignorance over whether Mullins asked a question on the call. I wasn't on that call, I'm not a member of the committee. Its not a big deal, if I don't know it wouldn't be the end of the world, I'm just perplexed as to why you got your knickers in such a twist over it.

I said "innocence," Sean. "Innocence." You're pretending no ill intent in you question when everyone knows Chipper sent you to throw a punch at Mullins.
Are you going to answer my question? Is Chipper dishonest or incompetent?

Mullins told me he had to miss the call.

Ok, Sean's question has been answered. Now maybe he will answer my question:
Was Chipper dishonest in that he intentionally did not tell the executive committee that Freeman is a Republican or is he incompetent in that he didn't know Freeman is a Republican?

Heatseeker,
Now will you answer my question, please!
Are you a total loser or are you a total idiot?
Which one is it?

Hey I don't know you at all but you really come across as a little whiny little baby!
I bet you have high pitch nasally voice.
You are a giant P!

Thanks Jeff, that makes a little more sense.

Cheapseeker,
Chipper's gonna have to give you better talking points than that.
Would you like to answer the question, since Sean refuses? Did Chipper intentionally mislead the executive committee or did he not know that Freeman is a Republican? Dishonest or incompetent? Which is it?

Heatseeker,
I don't even know Chip, so he didn't give me any talking points. I'm just a concerned Democrat. But I'll answer your question. I guess I'll say he is incompetent.
But you never answered my question?
Are you a loser or an idiot?

I don't care if Freeman is a Republican or voted for Ron Paul. All I care about is him raising money for the Democratic Party. And if he can raise money for Democrats from Republican pockets then all the better. And perhaps that's what has some people scared.

interesting that Mullins mentions an executive committee call because the last time I heard there hasn't been one since Freeman's election. So what call is he talking about?
