Question: What do the No. 1 crossover artist in the nation, a sleek and strapping Nashville Rollergirl, take-no-prisoners karaoke, Mayor Karl Dean's right-hand man, and the possible subject of David Fincher's next production have in common? Answer: You're living in it.

The Scene's first People Issue is now online, portraying different facets of Nashville through profiles or photographs of some 30 subjects. Some will be instantly familiar. Others may be known to few outside their respective neighborhoods. All are people whose stories, lives and personalities make this the city we love.

Are there slices of the city we left out? Undoubtedly. We have barely tapped Nashville's most renewable resource: the stories and accomplishments of our fellow citizens. The good thing is, before this People Issue even hit the racks we had suggestions coming in for next year's.

Make sure you check out the slideshows assembled by art director Rob Williams, the man responsible for the issue's look and design. And we'd like to thank all the photographers who contributed--especially our MVP Eric England, a guy who could coax an unguarded moment out of a Buckingham Palace sentry.
