Freeman Still Trying to Explain His Republican Giving

Posted by Jeff Woods on Mon, Feb 23, 2009 at 4:34 PM

New Democratic Party treasurer Bill Freeman is offering more explanations for his tens of thousands of dollars in contributions to Republicans. The latest? His kid wanted to meet the president. So as any dad would do, Freeman plunked down $20,000 $10,000 for a couple of tickets to a Bush fund-raiser.
"I have always considered myself a Democrat and have given frequently to Democratic candidates," says Freeman. "It is no secret that I've contributed to a few Republicans as well. However, it has become increasingly clear in the last several years and even more so through the inspiration and leadership of our new President that the Democratic Party is the only party that has answers for these perilous times." Freeman adds, "I will do all I can to help the Tennessee Democratic Party and Chairman Chip Forrester raise the funds necessary to elect Democrats who will create and protect jobs, ensure that all Tennesseans have access to affordable health care, and bring world-class education to every child in Tennessee."

Terrific. So Freeman wanted a Polaroid of Junior and the guy who drove America's economy and global credibility into the ground. [Couldn't he have just done what the rest of us would do ... go to Opry Mills and pay $5 to get a snapshot in front of one of those cardboard cut-outs?] Oh, and forget the fact that the RNC then used Freeman's money to ... that's right, slime Democrats. But Junior got a picture. So it's all okay. What a crock of shit.
And what about the other chunk of change the man dropped on the Tennessee Republican Party ... whose stated purpose for several years has been to build majorities in the State Senate and House? Which they did, thanks to gifts from Freeman. If the Democrats let this guy stay in this position, they are spineless cowards.

How many excuses does that make today? It was just business. I was pissed at Bredesen. I wanted my boy to get a pic with the president? Man, three in one day puts Chipper and Freeman in a league with John Ford.
Did everyone notice that Chipper's release does not mention the $10K Freeman gave to the Tennessee Republican Party in 2006. Just like his intitial presser didn't mention that Freeman is Odom's campaign treasurer.
He sure is trying to hide a lot about his new treasurer. What else don't we know about Freeman?

I can't say I'm a big Forrester supporter; he makes me a little nervous. But here he's reached out to someone seasoned in fundraising and maybe with a crowd different from Forrester's own base. Seems like a smart move to me.

If by "z crowd different" you mean Republicans then, well, yes.
