His campaign is off to a fast start. When you call his headquarters, somebody actually answers the phone and sends press releases immediately upon request. (OK, my expectations for Democrats are really low.) To do his TV, Cammack's already hired Murphy Putnam, the hot Democratic media firm. That proves Cammack's ready to unfurl some cash. (Or at least he's convinced Steve Murphy that he is.)
But what's really got me jazzed is this letter Cammack sent to Democrats yesterday in which he castigates the Fantastic Four in the state House who are demanding Barack Obama's birth certificate. "It is an embarrassment to the Tennessee Legislature and to the Tennessee Republican Party," he says. Maybe Democrats have finally found someone who's not afraid to take on the Republicans. After the jump, Cammack's letter:
Update: Ilissa Gold also awakens to the possibilities of this rich guy named Ward Cammack.
The Committee to Elect
W A R D C A M M A C K
Good Day,
I am writing to introduce myself to you as a candidate for the 2010 Democratic nomination for Governor. This week we had an important reminder of what's at stake twenty months from now.
As you may have read this past week, four Republican state legislators, including the House GOP Caucus Chairman, signed up in a lawsuit challenging whether President Obama was constitutionally eligible to be President. The four Republican lawmakers want President Obama to prove that he is a United States citizen by producing his birth certificate.
As one Nashville political columnist wrote, "This is dumber than a box of rocks." At a time when hundreds of thousands of Tennesseans are worried about losing their jobs and/or their health care, it is unconscionable that these lawmakers would engage in this type of partisan activity. It is an embarrassment to the Tennessee Legislature and to the Tennessee Republican Party.
I realize that it is too early in the process for many of you to make a commitment in the 2010 gubernatorial contest, but this week's GOP folly is a reminder of how important this decision will be. In the coming weeks, I will begin to campaign across Tennessee. I hope you will take the opportunity to learn more about my candidacy and my plans to create more jobs here in Tennessee.
I look forward to visiting with you in person next time I am in your city or county. In the meantime, please feel free to contact me and let me know about important Democratic events in your part of the state.
The right wing of the Tennessee GOP is salivating at having control in all three branches of government next year. We all know what that would mean. We have had enough of it nationally. We don't need it here in Tennessee. Together we can keep the wolf from the door.

Yeah, but how embarrassed will you all be if it turns out that Obama is the wolf in this story. All Obama has to do is provide the long-form vault birth certificate (which Hawaii says it has, but has not said what is says) and all this will go away...
But why would Democrats possibly want it to go away? These kind of kooky obsessions by the right-wing dominated GOP do nothing but help the Democrats. Independant swing voters are appalled, rightfully, by this kind of stuff. It's like the Vince Foster obsession or flouride in the water.
So by all means, go forth and file lawsuits, take to the airways and bang the drum. All kooks welcome.
There will be a lot of embarrassed Dems and media folks when the truth about Barry or whoever he is comes out.
That's it! Keep it up! "...or whoever he is."
Perfect! He's a muslim radical jihadist, planted here to destroy our way of life. A modern day manchurian candidate. Yes! Tell everyone, quickly.
Everyman says:
Yes! Tell everyone, quickly.

Yes! And be sure to get Orly Taitz to represent you! (She's the lawyer filing the suit, you know.)
If you have any questions about her qualifications and good sense, read the letter she wrote to Chief Justice Roberts -- http://www.scribd.com/doc/9693866/Orlys-Letter-to-Chief-Justice-Roberts.
Funny how easily some people are fooled... or are you behind the cover up working to perpetuate the lie?
Trust me, it is not the legislators that is giving Tennessee a bad name. It’s the idiots like you who show similar intelligence to a box of rocks.
This argument is dead simple. Obama is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to keep from showing what the rest of the population shows for free dozens of times throughout their lives.
Why?
I see lots of smoke - must be a fire someplace. Until it gets put out, we’ll keep applying water.

Yes! I'm the part of the conspiracy in charge of making sure you get ridiculed to death!
I must admit, you make my job very easy...
LOL!!
Oops! Sorry!
I didn't mean to say the idiot part...
I was just quoting a previous comment I pasted and didn't edit. Really, I love you guys!
We can still be friends and disagree.

It's true. We'll also be embarrassed if it turns out that he's a droid controlled by the North Koreans through a chip implanted in his brain.
That doesn't mean he's under any obligation to prove it's not true!
Amazing how this thread has become about the Birthers rather than this guy running for governor.
Don't worry about the COLB for our new President. It does not matter. It does not matter where he was born. His reported father was not an American. His mother was only 17. His father was a Kenyan, So he was born a Kenyan, not an American! And NO his mother did not grant him American Citizenship at birth, she was only 17, to young to transfer American Citizenship to her baby boy. (in '61 a female had to have lived in America 10 years with at least 5 of those years being over the age of 14. 14+5=19. She was only 17.) You elected a Kenyan, President, illegally! Now what?
You know, I was chuckling before at the suggestion that the Obama people created the Birthers just to make the right wing look silly.
But I don't know, this old1 person is making me reconsider...
MaineSkeptic, They may be the enemy but, they are smart. The best place to hide the truth is right in front of our noses. We seldom look at what is right in front of us, we have to work to find the dark hidden places where evil lies. So "they" put it in the bright light, right in front of us, and we just step over it looking for things much more complicated. Works most of the time. Funny thing is;him being a Kenyan and therefore British is exactly the reason our founding fathers put "Natural Born Citizen" in the Constitution. That being to keep the Brits from getting elected president of their new country and destroying what they were trying to build. A FREE REPUBLIC!
old1:
Yes, I understand, but I'm not sure what you mean by "the dark hidden places." It's well documented and well understood that Obama's father was a Kenyan (i.e., British) citizen at the time of Barack Jr.'s birth. I don't think anyone's trying to keep that secret.
The question is, are people automatically "Natural Born Citizens" by virtue of having been born on U.S. soil? From what I've read, the vast preponderance of legal opinion holds that they are.
Now, I know that there are those who feel otherwise, and it is appropriate for them to try have it adjudicated via the legal system. But the odds are heavily against them simply because very few people agree, not because anyone is hiding anything.
Does anyone remember that the Annenberg Policy Center's Fact Check Group already covered this? In painstaking detail? It's a dead issue if there ever was one. Here's a hint- the birth certificate WAS produced and examined.
http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/born_in_the_usa.html
They even dug up a Honolulu newspaper from back in 1961 with his birth notice.
I can find this on the internet in 10 seconds. 4 GOP Reps and their staff members can't do enough research to figure this out before embarrassing themselves?
Box of rocks, indeed.
Short Memory, anyone? says:

Ah, well, unfortunately nothing's that simple in Birther country.
See, one aspect of the infamous Obama-Ayers connection took place through the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, which means that anything associated with the Annenberg name is but another arrow in the Usurper's quiver.
Never mind that Walter Annenberg was a promiment Republican, or that the Annenberg Foundation is currently run by his widow, Leonore, who supported McCain in the election.
In fact, if you look at the open letter by Orly Taitz (the attorney in the above mentioned matter) to Chief Justice Roberts (http://www.scribd.com/doc/9693866/Orlys-Letter-to-Chief-Justice-Roberts), you will see that she roundly chastises the Chief Justice for his involvement in an educational project sponsored by the Annenberg Foundation.
Welcome to Birther country!
WAKE UP. Your country has been run into bankruptcy. Your constitution was ignored too long. Your elected officials are at best self serving mindless feel gooders, at worst the most corrupt the Chicago political machine can produce. They have turned the voting population into name callers from two parties that can't be discerned from each other. Your currency will be rubbished by inflation. Your banks are insolvent and are to be nationalized. Your coastal states are bankrupt. Your government bonds are being rejected around the world. The fearless leader is fearlessly claiming ownership on everything. He's done almost as much as Chavez in a fraction of the time.
So what to do? Demand Liberty.
Read the Constitution.
Get rid of the lifers in the fed.
Baby boomers: Stop trying to redefine everything to suit your needs. You can't redefine science, economics, integrity and morals. Statism and micromanagement of the economic system doesn't work and never will.
"THOSE WHO GIVE UP LIBERTY IN THE NAME OF SAFETY GET WHAT THEY DESERVE"
Ward Cammack and all the other candidates in this 2010 campaign -- except for me, James Reesor -- will probably be getting media attention. As the first to announce, 18 May 2008, I am surprised to learn that an Independent such as mysekf has been lost in the shuffle now that Democrats and Republicans are eager to compete. Oh, well, maybe a miracle will happen and I will be elected Governor of Tennessee -- no matter how many millions of dollars they waste trying to defeat me.
