Attorney General: We're a 'Nation of Cowards' on Race

Posted by Pete Kotz on Wed, Feb 18, 2009 at 3:18 PM

If you think Obama's birth certificate and gun control get the nativists riled up, get a load of this: Today, Attorney General Eric Holder call us a "nation of cowards" for our approach to race. Regardless of where you sit on this issue, it's hard to watch the video above and not believe that Holder was merely offering his heartfelt feelings on the matter. But that simple phrase--"nation of cowards"--is a lock to blow up in the media and throughout Redneck Land over the next few days. As the YouTube headline notes, "Is he inciting a race war?" Prepare for detonation in 5, 4, 3...

calling america a nation of cowards with regards to race dialogue is like calling a recovering alcoholic a pussy for not hanging out in bars.

I'm not sure I understand your reasoning, Alum, but it's a great line.

Just stop the racial crap and show us your birth certificate.

Bill McKay, who needs to show their birth certificate, Eric Holder? Where was he supposedly born, North Korea?
Anyways, apparently, the "Redneck Land" blogosphere hasn't gotten the heads up from their leaders yet regarding your post. Give it some time and maybe you can also get some paranoid, right-wing traffic to this posting.

hey america, let's have a couple decades of on the record (what's off these day's anyway?) discussion about race, say whatever you want, whatever comes to mind. rant. rave. oh, did i mention you better say everything exactly fucking right, so as not to be misconstrued as being a racist. what, not interested? what are you a racist?
folks can only take so much of it. now everyone's supposed to come out of the woodwork and chew the fat? come on.
but i'll step up. i'll be a pioneer, eric. here goes: until black folks in america quit being angry about slavery, the double standards will continue. yes, plenty of other stuff has to happen too, but tell me one way that statement is false.

Listen up rubes ... this is a calculated effort to flush out the slow-witted and slow moving amongst your merry band of dolts.
Economy burning down around us and you can't resist calling for the head of a man who spoke the truth in an effort to bring healing discussion.
Yes, we have been cowards. Many of us and for too long.
But this is passing. Not gone. Just passing.
Your relevance is on the wane and soon to be gone. Evolution doesn't stop even if you don't believe in it.

What a load of garbage. The words "axe to grind" is more appropriate than meaningful dialog. This guy is the AG, a tremendousely powerful position, and it sounds like he doesn't like people of the lighter persuasion. Can I say that?

Dennis- You can say it but it shows your lack of willingness to even hear what he's saying. Did you even listen to the video/speech before you claim he doesn't like whites? While the word "coward" was an unfortunate choice of words, a black man saying "we are cowards" and "we don't talk about race" and "we go into our safe cocoons of race" do not in any way indicate that he is merely pointing the finger at whites and not people of his own race. Geez, he even implies there should not be a "Black History Month," that the history of blacks should just be a part of the celebration of history in general. I thought the folks who hate all the diversity stuff would eat that up.

I'm not sure why Holder wants an honest, courageous dialog on race; we get that already in anonymous comments to articles on the web and it's often not pretty. I mean, it's not as if "race leaders" are going to negotiate a contract in which people with slaves in their family tree get restituion in exchange for rejecting unmarried childbearing as a social norm.
Holder also claimed that history, as it is being taught, ignores the contributions of black people. But I thought that severe racism throughout most of America's history prevented most blacks from making influential individual contributions to American society. You cannot really teach about what black people _would_ have done, if only they'd been given the chance. And if you make a big fuss about minor contributions, you risk "damning with faint praise."
You could talk about how some minor figure overcame huge odds to make his minor contribution, but history is not about praising people -- it's about learning how things got to be the way they are.

Mr. Holder;
I am not afraid to discuss racism. To put it most eloquently, you are a prevaricating nigger.
How's that for confronting rascism, you lying bastard?
Black Americans should thank their lucky stars for slavery. Without slavery, idiots like you would be citizens of an impoverished West African nation and live in huts with dirt floors.

I think it is time to note that the entire worldwide economic meltdown started with the financial meltdown here in the US. The reason it happened was the sudden default on hundreds of thousands (if not millions by now)of home mortgages that should never have been approved. A huge majority of those defaulted home loans were to racial minorities, mostly to Negroes. Yes, Negroes. (I suppose that automatically makes me a racist but what-the-hell? I don't want to be a "coward" on the race issue!) The sad fact is that this "affirmative action" in lending program is not only subsidized and insured by US government agencies and private organizations like ACORN, but it is actually required by law. The arch-NO-NO in real estate and lending for real estate transactions is and has been for years, DISCRIMINATION on the basis of RACE or COLOR!
That's right. Loans were made to individuals who should not have qualified and would not have been so had they been White. Lenders approved loans to avoid any appearance that they may have been discriminating on the basis of race, and therefore in direct violation of federal laws. So, in a nutshell, FEDERAL AFFIRMATIVE ACTION IN LENDING HAS DESTROYED THE ECONOMY OF THE ENTIRE PLANET. And now, the illegal usurper, illegal alien, unconstitutional president, and his Black accomplices will finish the job with round two in which they spend over a trillion more on even more minority pandering taxpayer bleeding programs that will not work. Get ready, it's gonna get real fuckin ugly! GOT AMMO???
