Another Crime by Another Handgun Permit Holder

More evidence this morning that, among our many thousands of law-abiding handgun permit holders, some maybe shouldn't be walking around with a gun. Knox County school board member Bill Phillips has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault for threatening his wife with his handgun. This follows the killing in those always-sketchy Memphis suburbs in which police say a permit holder shot another guy in the chest in an argument over the parking of their respective giant SUVs. And then there are those ominous messages left for Memphis Commercial Appeal executives who posted the state's public-record list of the names of permit holders. We're keeping it all on file here. Just another public service from Pith in the Wind.

Will the Scene also keep track of the DUI's by licensed drivers as well? If not, why not? Why gun violations only? Why the magic boogeyman about firearms?
Is there some sort of miracle that transforms someone in a perfect Jesus once they acquire a carry permit? Hardly. People are human, they make errors & mistakes. Yes, this includes gun owners as well.
As for the Commercial Appeal, I wonder how many women have been located by a stalker, rapist or violent ex-spouse/BF with this bit of help?
Thankfully the State Legislature will be voting on a bill to remove the permit holder list from public record. Since the libtards will bemoan this as well, perhaps they will agree to make public record car license plate numbers? After all, what harm could THAT do, eh?

Jeff, I see you didn't post my comment. Are you afraid of being exposed for the biased whack-job you are?
Here it is again in case you missed it:
Jeff, let's see how much intellectual honesty you have. Please publish the crime rate of handgun carry permit holders in Tennessee compared to the crime rate of all citizens of the state.
The fact is, the handgun permit owners are far and away more law-abiding and commit violent crime at a fraction of the general populace.
Come on, this should be an easy one for you. Do the comparison - if you don't, it'll expose your bias.

Was he carrying the gun on his permit in public at the time he made his threat? If not, then his concealed-carry permit is irrelevant to the incident (though it would be valid reason to revoke it).
(BTW, nice CZ 85 you have pictured at the top of the article. Was that the model he used?)

Wow. Two suspected crimes, huh? And no convictions yet?
Out of 240,000+ carry permit holders. OMG IT'S AN EPIDEMIC!

Jeff
Do what CSR suggests but go one better and also post the crime rate of law enforcement officers in the state.
What you find may shock you.

Poor Jeff. Since the Wild West Shootouts(tm) and Blood in the Streets(tm) never came to fruition after the aggressive passage of CCW in the 90's like Paul Helmke and other hoplophobes predicted, they have to harp on what amounts to statistical anomalies.
Look up criminal recidivism and violent crime committed with hands, blunt objects, knives... Maybe you can use your 1st Amendment rights to do something other than attack the 2nd.
Sad.

Jeff, would you please be so kind as to publish quotes, or at least links to, those supposedly "ominous warnings" you keep referencing? Because, until you do so, you are just making baseless accusations without the benefit of supporting evidence - something a "journalist" like you should know better than to do.
Furthermore, I second the request to publish the overall crime rate of handgun carry permit holders here in Tennessee, especially in comparison to the police officers' crime rate here as well. As Heckler pointed out, you might be very surprised at what you find.
Of course, were you to do such a thing, you might just have to give up on your anti-handgun-carry-permit-holder rhetoric, and God knows you would never dream of doing such a thing.

Why can they post this database of gun owners private info, but the gun owners can't post a database of the journalists private info? Both are equally wrong, and that was the point of creating the journalist database-- good for the goose is good for the gander!
Why shouldn't a newspaper post a database of suspected communists, or gays, or whatever? Because it's wrong! Just like posting a database of law-abiding citizens.

As a Jewess in the US, I want to point out that America wasn't won with a registered gun! And criminals are stopped by FIREARMS, not by sweet-talk. That is why all REAL Americans put our 2nd Amendment FIRST!!

More crimes are committed by journalists than hand-gun carry permit holders.
And that's not even counting the crime of misrepresenting facts.

As Stalin said: "A single death is a tragedy - a million deaths is a statistic."
Not to devalue the lives of those involved in the instances above, but they are far and away the exceptions, not the rule.
And - before I drown you with any more cliché's, I am going to make like a tree, and get the heck out of here!

What a shamelessly biased article by Jeff Woods to further his liberal agenda. I would say that the trash he wrote illustrated ignorance on his part, but I know enough about these types of people to realize they are quite aware of facts, yet they choose to ignore them to support their own causes.
Fortunately, the vast majority of Tennesseans know that Handgun Carry Permit holders are proven to be among the MOST law-abiding groups in the nation, even moreso than law-enforcement officers when it comes to committing gun crimes.
You're going to take one or two instances of gun crime perpetrated by this
demographic to make a point, are you? How tranparent of you, and believe me when I say that folks see right through your crap-ola.
Fact is, I could go on all day listing proven facts about the success of the handgun carry permit laws in this state, but people that frolick in their own stupidity and misinformation are different than those that can be reasoned with and shown the truth. Why waste my breath trying to convert somebody that
insists on being short-sighted and closed-minded and intolerant of others' rights to protect themselves, even if he himself chooses to be a potential victim of real criminals that walk among us? Idiot.
