Waiting for the Democrats' Legislative Agenda

House Democrats say they're taking a novel approach to this year's legislative session. Working with their Senate counterparts, they claim they're developing an actual agenda for action. But they couldn't make it through a press briefing yesterday without disagreeing about exactly what this so-called agenda might entail.

House Caucus leader Mike Turner said: "It's going to be a Tennessee working families agenda. We're talking about jobs, education, mortgage relief, things that put bread on the table and help people afford to send their kids to college, that kind of thing."

Pressed on how Democrats could agree on a platform when they've never been able to do so in the past, Turner waffled. "We may not list necessarily individual bills," he said. House Democratic leader Gary Odom interjected: "The agenda's really going to be about principles."

Look for a vapid press release trumpeting Democrats' support for jobs, schools and families.
