The above has been named "Photo of the Year" by the World Press Photo competition. The picture was snapped in Cleveland on March 26 by Anthony Suau and appeared in Time magazine. It is an image of striking contrast, a cop, gun drawn, stalking through the remnants of a family's home. The photo shows the fallout from a collapsed housing market, specifically how this crisis has turned some American homes into battlefields. The rest of the winners here.

That's why I didn't write: "Pictures by the rest of the winners here."

Fun with irony: Suau had to beg Time magazine print his award-winning picture. Even then it only ended up online. Now he's struggling to find work.
