Victim Alert: Stimulus Package an Assault on Christianity!

The upside to the Obama presidency: The professional victims of the Christian right now have a lot more to complain about. Their latest round of oppression: "Obama's spending bill stimulates anti-Christian bigotry!"

So says the Traditional Values Coalition and other rightist groups. They contend that, because the bill bars construction spending on religious buildings, it's like totally prejudiced or something. Here's how this fiendishness goes down:

The stimulus bill has a chunk of money going to the "greening" of university buildings. But said money can't go to those used for "sectarian instruction, religious worship, or a department of divinity." Given that whole separation of church and state thing, it seems pretty straightforward, right?

Wrong, you heathen! Followers of the Mean Jesus know this is really a covert plot to ban Bible study from public buildings! "This should be called the ACLU Full Employment Act, since it will be a boon for their anti-Christian litigation," says the Traditional Values Coalition. "Unless these schools banish religious activity on campus," the ACLU will surely sue!

Of course, the ACLU doesn't actually have the time or the money to sue, say, Tennessee State for occasionally allowing a bible study group to meet in its student union. But when you're a professional victim, you can't let the slimmest possibility of oppression just pass you by, can you?

"This is just the beginning of the aggressive anti-Christian discrimination that we will face over the next four years," says the coalition. Consider yourself warned.

During the Bush years, I would especially enjoy a whole series of cartoons known as "Republican Jesus". These cartoons didn't represent the "Sermon on the Mount" Jesus that I prefer. On the contrary, the GOP Jesus was in a suit 'n tie quoting one liners that the Religious Right would find to their liking.
Check out a few of them:

Which imaginary being do Christians believe in again? Is it Vishnu? Allah? I just don't remember. Anyway, I can think of no better way to spend taxpayer money than doling it out to religious organizations.
Wait a minute, I remember who they worhship, it's the Pope! I'm all for giving these people money just so long as they don't give any to those filthy, traitorous Protestants. They'll be burning in Hell for ever and ever anyway, so why waste the money now? All hail the Pope!

It's long been known that many folk use the term Zionist as a euphemism for Jew to avoid being labeled antisemitic. I suspect many people use the term "Christian Right" in much the same way.

Wow, isn't the internet great? It will let anybody spew out what ever they want and feel like somebody is listening. You know Christian groups don't really need the Governments money. I'm sure they get quite a bit already. Also no matter what people in the Church's reason for giving money they give. Why do they give? They give because they have faith their money will be used for the right reason. Do you trust the Government with the money you give them? Also churches give the majority of their resouces and dollars to help people all over the globe. Even in these hard times they give money or clothes or food or whatever they can to help others that will never even know their name. They don't give for recognition. Stop lumping Christians with the so called religious right. Also, if you don't believe in God or Jesus then that is your choice but to make fun of others because they do is cruel. Does anyone make fun of you because you do not believe?
