God wants to punch Tennessee Senator Paul Stanley
Traditional values are based on the sanctity of family, home and hearth. So one might think they'd extend to finding homes for unwanted kids. Though babies are in high demand, it's a whole different game for those with health problems, disabilities, siblings hoping to stay together, or children who've aged beyond the cuteness stage. They tend to languish in foster homes and state care for years on end, without a nibble from someone willing to reach out.
But in a move that would make Josef Mengele applaud, state Sen. Paul Stanley (R-5th Century B.C.) wants to make it even more difficult for them.
He's proposing to ban gay people from adopting. If this were a just world, state Rep. Brian Kelsey (
R-Extortion) would bring him up on ethics charges. With one bill, Stanley has managed to violate two of the most important tenets of traditional values.
1. Never screw kids. It makes you look like a dick. Even God will want to punch you.
2. Never pick a fight with the smallest guy in the room. It violates the Dayton Accords for Cruel and Unusual Unmanliness. Since gays have no public clout, this is akin to Stanley bravely thumping his chest in a crowded bar, crowing of his heroics, then asking the guy in the wheelchair to step outside.
What Would Jesus Say? He'd hold a potluck fundraiser so Stanley could take night classes for reading comprehension. Maybe then he'd understand that whole Love Thy Neighbor thing.
But God would probably still punch him.
