the Pro Bowl
This is Collins' second trip to Hawaii (his last was all the way back in 1996) and a nice little cherry on the top for his season. After starting as a back-up, Collins ended it as the leader of the team with the league's best record. Then the playoffs happened and the Ravens got that extra second on the game clock and Alge Crumpler was this close
to the goal line when he fumbled and, well...let's just soldier on, shall we?
Anyway, point is, even though he presumably has time to pull out with some mysterious injury (achy breaky heart
, perhaps?), Collins is precisely the kind of guy who would honor the commitment. A nice change of pace considering the Pro Bowl is the red-headed step-child of professional sports all-star games, with players often copping dubious excuses for their own no-shows.
Normally we'd use this opportunity to call out first runner-up Philip Rivers and his "sore" knee. But since we once took ourselves out of a pick-up basketball game because of a hangnail, and because Rivers dropping out was what prompted Collins' selection, we say bully to you Philip. Put some ice on it and enjoy watching our boy Kerry light up the NFC in Honolulu.
Congratulations are in order for Kerry Collins. The Titans quarterback got word today that he's going to
