Nashville artist Herb Williams, the man who's done more for Crayola sales than all of the kindergarten teachers in Davidson County combined, has created a 4-by-4-foot crayon sculpture of soon-to-be (tick..tick...tick!) president Barack Obama that will be on display in Washington, D.C., for the inaugural festivities.
Williams' sculpture (seen above) required 50,000 crayons, features 20 Crayola colors and weighs 150 pounds. The piece will be displayed at the Manifest Hope Exhibition Jan. 17-19. According to the press release, 15,000 people are expected to see the exhibition.
When the sculpture returns to Nashville, it will be turned over to a local collector who purchased it for $25,000. You can see more of Williams' work at The Rymer Gallery, 233 Fifth Ave. N.
(A word of advice to the purchaser: Keep it out of the sun, unless you like Jackson Pollock.)
