Last night, Dr. Ming Wang--founder of the Wang Vision Institute in Nashville as well as a hospital in Shanghai with degrees from Harvard and MIT--spoke at a mixer for the Nashville Chamber of Commerce. The talk was about how to invest in China, specifically the best way to build a manufacturing base there. Wang is from China and often tells the story of how he escaped the oppressive regime there and found success in the U.S.

It was a fascinating discussion about how to navigate complex local government systems, the distance from home offices in Tennessee, and lastly, the language barrier.

Dr. Wang used this topic as a launching point for an impassioned plea for those assembled to vote "No" on the English Only referendum.

He called the amendment a "divisive, totally unnecessary, ridiculous proposal."

Wang also turned the table on the business types assembled and asked, "Would you still be motivated to invest and do business in China if tomorrow the Chinese government declared that all business could only be conducted in Chinese? Of course not. That would be stupid."

Well played, doctor.

"divisive, totally unnecessary, ridiculous proposal."
Amen. Ranks right up there with requiring ID from toothless, white haired beer purchasers. And let us not forget our police department's maximum regulator, Serpas. Oh well, I suppose Tennessee, and Nashville, needs a little governmental stupidity to balance off our lovely climate and economic good fortune. Shee-it!
