The liberal media never rests.
Pith in the Wind is proud to deliver this embarrassing little bit of news to mess up the new Republican majority's big day at the Capitol: State Rep. Donna Rowland, a Bible-thumping disciple of the New Right, stands accused of shacking up with her boyfriend in a domicile outside her district. Her November election opponent has made this allegation in an official challenge to Rowland's victory. The
Chattanooga Times Free Press reported this controversy yesterday, but being a family newspaper, it left out the best stuff.
In a Nov. 14 letter to House clerk Burney Durham, Rowland's Democratic foe, Rishi Saxena, officially challenged
the election, charging that Rowland "is not a qualified voter in the legislative district 34 because she does not live in this district. She lives with her boyfriend at 2225 SE Broad Street, Murfreesboro, TN, which is in the 48th district."
In a letter to House Speaker Jimmy Naifeh, somebody named Kathy Adams, a voter in Rowland's district, elaborates. Adams apparently did a little detective work:
I drove by Ms. Rowland's so-called house on 237 Faldo Dr. I saw uncut grass, lawn strewed [sic] with newspapers of several days, shades of the house drawn, no car in the driveway, etc. It had a look of an unlived dwelling.
But when Adams phoned a reporter and ratted out Rowland, suddenly the lawn was manicured and the old newspapers disappeared. A Rowland campaign yard sign even sprang up in the front yard. "I find this very suspicious," Adams reports in her letter.
As the
Times Free Press reports, none of this will affect today's speakership election. Rowland can vote as a member of the House until the election challenge is decided.
