Ramsey Takes Shots At Bredesen

Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey has declared war against Gov. Phil Bredesen's favorite initiative, his pre-K program. To the Kingsport Times News: "We tell teachers that 'Every dollar that goes into pre-K is a dollar taken away from you,'" said Ramsey. "They don't look at it that way. ... We need to leave it where it is. This whole economic situation is playing into our hands. There's no way (Bredesen) can put more money into pre-K this year."

Wonder if the governor still thinks it doesn't matter much that Republicans won the legislature? Ramsey also took the opportunity to whine a little about Bredesen's PR magic:

"I've told (Bredesen) this personally," Ramsey said. "He's going to present this next budget and drop it on the table and constituent groups are going to say 'Oh, isn't he a smart governor? Isn't he a good manager? Oh, we're lucky to have him in office.' He could slide the exact same one across the table to me, and people would say 'Look at this, Republicans are kicking old people out of nursing homes and starving kids.'... He gets a free ride on stuff."
Meanwhile, Ramsey sidekick Jason Mumpower, who eats peanut butter on graham crackers for breakfast, feels "very, very good" that he'll beat Jimmy Naifeh on Tuesday for the speakership: "I'm leaving no stone unturned and taking no chances."

Not a stretch of logic to hear, in the near future, "We tell teachers that 'Every dollar that goes into first grade is a dollar taken away from you."

What idiots! Every dollar spent on pre-K (or first grade) is a dollar spent making YOUR job easier and more rewarding in 2nd, 3rd, and so on.
