GOP Rejects Ira Brody as Treasurer

Republicans just managed to dodge a major PR embarrassment by rejecting Ira Brody as their nominee for state treasurer. As it was, damaging media reports about Brody's financial shenanigans raised plenty of questions about the GOP's competence to choose the state's constitutional officers. Brody, a big GOP contributor, probably was the leading candidate for treasurer until a few days ago when his bad press began. Someone in the GOP's vaunted vetting process was asleep at the switch or just hoping no one looked into Brody's background. He attended today's meeting, but lawmakers ignored him. He walked around the room like a leper and hurried out once the vote was announced.

The joint Republican caucus nominated David Lillard, a Shelby County commissioner, instead of Brody. The caucus picked Justin Wilson, a top Sundquist administration aide, as comptroller, and TRA Chair Tre Hargett as secretary of state. In a surprise, it took only one ballot for Republicans to make all three choices.

The republicans made a big mistake. They went with stouffers dried out macaroni and cheese instead of gourmet muenter and lomghorn cheese.
Same old boring crap. Yeah you know what you're getting, but you then again you know what you're getting. More of the same old, boring nothingness. Go nowwhere, do nothing. Ira Brody would have brought the repubs to the top. This choice is just going to sink the party further. Nice thinking inside of the tightly sealed tin box. I am ashamed to be a TN republican today. Saddend and ashamed.

Ask not for whom the bell tolls, Ira. It tolls for thee.

Ira is a good guy, sometimes like Jack and the Beanstalk just too ambitious for his own good, but TN may eventually benefit from creativity, dillegence and intensity - dont write his political obit yet but watch your cows!
