A Canoe View of TVA's Toxic Coal Spill

Posted by Pete Kotz on Tue, Jan 6, 2009 at 11:57 AM

Above you'll find a fairly powerful video from Appalachian Voices, whose members canoed the Emory River to take water samples and get a close-up view of the TVA's toxic coal ash spill. The site looks eerily similar to Alaska shores following the Exxon Valdez spill--dead fish, blackened water thick like espresso, and five-foot "ashburgs" floating about. The group also found evidence that TVA was doing more to protect its own plant from pollution than halting the contamination for spreading down river. It's a rather scary video, but well-worth the eight minute run time.

I live in south texas on a large ranch where Exxonmobil has operated an oil and gas lease since 1935. The place is a wreck and ExxonMobil openly dumps. I made a website
www.RanchoLosMalulos.com
with movies, videos and a blog. I live here and you can see how these major companies really operate up close in my photos and videos which I usually take the day that I post on the blog. Now Exxonmobil is suing me for tortious interference. Sadly a lot of big companies have the money to work the court system and they get away with stuff like the Valdez and this latest Coal Spill. Take as many photos and videos as you can and prepare for a long legal battle which no one wins but the big company because they can afford an army of attorneys.
