If you thought country music's redneck roots had been mined of all their comic potential by the likes of Jeff Foxworthy, Bill Engvall and Larry the Cable Guy, think again--on the trailer trash hilarity meter, those tired bubbas are Nissan Frontiers parked next to Doyle and Debbie's Dodge Ram 1500 Hemi.
When Bruce Arntson and Jenny Littleton concocted the hilarious country music duo, it's doubtful they foresaw the act's impressive lasting power. Originally staged as a short-run theater piece in June 2006 at Bongo After Hours Theatre, Doyle and Debbie are still going strong two-and-a-half years later, and can be seen most Tuesday nights at the Station Inn.
Tonight, D&D take their hillbilly hootenanny nationwide with a performance on Late Night With Conan O'Brien. Given how much New Yorkers love to poke fun at us Southern hicks, it should be a hoot watching Arnston and Littleton show those liberal, elitist highbrows at Conan how it's really done.
Late Night With Conan O'Brien starts at 11:35 p.m. Central Time.
