In his post "50 Complaining Neighbors 1, Nashville and History 0," Glen Harness argues that the Nashville Speedway's days are numbered. He believes an incompetent and disinterested Fair Board, coupled with contract problems and the possibility of major code violations, have made 2008 the final season of racing at the speedway.

Harness' prediction: "So what will happen is sometime in 2009 the Mayor will make a big announcement about the Fair moving to another place and they're going to buy the new land from the sale of the current fairgrounds. They'll sell it to some developer (which probably won't be anyone who submitted one of those proposals) and they'll dig up the track and put condos or something on the property."

I'm not so sure I'd say they're "incompetent". They're certainly disinterested, that's for sure. When I first started going to to the Fair Board meetings, the first thing newly elected chairman Weaver told me was "our job is to put on a Fair". Everything else was secondary. This is just the final manifestation of that mentality.
Some of the racers are upset at my prediction. They're so happy to get rid of the current track operators that anything else looks like a great deal. I don't see how they're going to go to a sponsor and say "Give me some money to race, but I don't know how many races there'll be, and I don't know what rules my car has to meet, and I don't know how they're going to run the track." Yeah, I'd give a team a bunch of money under those conditions.
