It was a typical Fall Sunday night. Winding down from a fun day at the Titans game. It was half time of the Sunday night football game on TV. Myself in a chair, my daughter on the sofa and her boyfriend in the kitchen preparing a nice large bowl of ice cream. Men, never let your guard down. Keep your doors locked. The five gang members are probably Hillsboro High School students from the Edge Hill area. It was not their first time. I was the second family last Sunday night that they terrorized. They came in with overwhelming force, five, all with automatic pistols; no one could have been prepared for that. The gang shot at me, forced me to open my gun and valuable safes looking for pistols and cash, all the time pointing, hitting and threatening to kill us. Then they kidnapped the three of us and drove us to two Green Hills ATM's to withdraw money. Then they drove us behind Hillsboro High School down a dark street where I thought, 'this is not good.'
As my daughter lay on the floor of the back seat she was tugging and tugging on my pants leg. I had to ignore her. I did not want to give a reason for the 3 gang members in our vehicle, two following in another car, to think we were planning some move. They finally told us to jump out of the SUV. My daughter and boyfriend jumped out one side, me the other. I came around the back side of the vehicle as it was speeding off and saw my daughter face down in the wet grass and mud with her boyfriend on top shielding her from harm. What a brave young man to protect her and put his life on the line for her. I will always be proud of such heroism.Only two hours before Stadler's ordeal, a home in Paragon Mills Park was hit in much they same manner. Detectives are trying to determine if the suspects from the West Nashville robbery were involved in this one.
Later, when the ordeal was over and the police took us back home, I asked her why she was tugging on my pants so hard. She said, "I wanted to tell you I love you in case we die tonight". A lot of us probably keep our front doors open when guests are visiting. These gang kids enjoyed what they did and will probably hit again. Since a lot of us live in the Green Hills/Belle Meade area, keep your guard up. It can happen anywhere, though. I keep asking myself, 'was it random?' Did they follow me from the grocery store? The Titan's game? Was it a connection with the workers across the street, building a house? Who did I piss off? Etc. etc. I need to know. Don't let your family go through what mine has. -Jim Stadler

thats why you should always rig your own vehicles with explosives. you couldve destroyed those sonofabitches.
I am terribly sorry for what happened to this family. I can't imagine the terror that went through their minds, the fear they had for their lives and the anger they must hold against the perpetrators of this criminal invasion. I have been a victim of an armed, in-home robbery and assault, and the after effects are lasting. But I have to take issue with the assumption that the "five gang members are probably Hillsboro High School students from the Edge Hill area." (BTW, it's Edgehill.) Was it their race that makes him think they are from the Edgehill area? (Likely not from the Harding Road area) Were they wearing Hillsboro High School gang paraphenalia? Did they sing the Hillsboro Alma Mater while driving them to the ATM? Or was the assumption made because they took them to Hillsboro High School to eject them from the car? If indeed they are HHS students, they would know there are surveillance cameras all over the campus, so it seems unlikely they would risk being identified at their own school. Perhaps his daughter and her boyfriend are students at Hillwood High School and recognized the alleged HHS gang members from a football game between the schools? Or shall I stereotype in the same manner Mr. Stadler does and assume that because he lives on Harding, has "workers" across the street from his house, went to a Titans game, has an SUV and safes in his home, that his children go to private school? I have been an active parent in the HHS cluster for 14 years now, and I am proud of our students, our faculty and administration, and our parents. Every school has challenges and problems, and the ones facing MNPS are well-known. But judgments and prejudice such as these made especially by folks who isolate themselves from the public school system is ignorant and disturbing.
You have lost your ever-loving mind. The man's home was invaded at gunpoint, he and his daughter were abducted, their lives were threatend and you want to trumpet your active membership in the HHS cluster? Spare me. Since when has a naked recitation of the facts of a crime been a call for a referendum on the nature of racism in Middle Tennessee. The fact that I have even acknowledged the arguement, absurd though it is, does mean that you have managed to deflect the viciousness of the crime. Shame on you. Please do not respond to this. This is just my way of trying to postpone my aneuryism.
Please don't postpone your aneuryism on my account. I believe I made clear my horror of what happened to this man and his family, and noted that the same thing happened to me, except that I suffereed more physical ramifications. It has been 27 years and I remember it like it was yesterday, and still cannot walk into a dark room. Believe me, I know what he and his family suffered. I did not use that as reason to point a finger of blame when I had no idea where it lay. I am not trumpeting my active membership in the cluster. I am asking why he assumed this rogue gang of thugs are HHS students and live in Edgehill.
Kay, I agree that the assumption that they may have gone to HHS is just that--an assumption. On the matter of Edge Hill, however, their stolen vehicle was recovered pulling into an Edge Hill driveway, so Mr. Stadler wasn't that far off on that point.
"Was it their race that makes him think they are from the Edgehill area? "
Who said anything about race? I didn't know WHAT color they were, but your comment there gives me a pretty good idea since I can think of only one which ellicits that kind of unwarranted response.
"Please don't postpone your aneuryism on my account."
That's a shitty thing to say. You've got class, lady.
what is this, "spot the racist"? give it a rest for two seconds, you know damn well these bastards were black. there's a 0.5% chance that there was a group of 5 kids, with guns, holding up an occupied home, heading home to edgehill, and not black. so what. the police took the report, being black doesnt make them bad people, being bad people doesnt make them black. but calling someone out for being less colorblind than you pretend to be just makes you look like a damn douchebag.
"what is this, "spot the racist"? give it a rest for two seconds, you know damn well these bastards were black."
We have a winner.
what do i win burrito? the right to say i can still think with my own brain and point out the obvious? thanks, i appreciate it! meanwhile, you can pat yourself on the back for pretending it's equally likely the perps were white or mexican or asian or caublanasian or catholic or leprechaun. you know, you can still consider yourself enlighted without being scared the great american boogie man will get you if you ever say what everybody already thinks.
beware of those that likes to listen to Hip-Hop, RAP, Reggae music, or any of its variations and similarities these are the types that likes to rob and kill people the most.
I personally wouldn't opt to live in a neighborhood where the majority of people listen to that garbage. Can you imagine being a home owner in a neighborhood where at 11PM theres always a group of 50 teens shouting and running all other the streents next to/near your house? I mean, what are the chances of you actually getting burglarized under THAT kind of neighborhood condition?? TERRIBLE!!!
So, pick a nice, peaceful neighborhood and live peacefully ever after.
Hint:
The more low income/poverty the neighborhood is, the more likely there will be lots of "lost" rebel teens with 0% respect to other shouting hip-hop lirics at 3AM when the orderly person is trying to sleep at their house, all under the presente of their "ghetto" and "culture".
I didn't knew there was a "culture" where evilness is considered to be OK, but sadly, that's what they call, their "culture".
These types of music should be made ILLEGAL within the US.
Muvies and TV Shows that has violent content should also be made ILLEGAL within our country, all for the SANITY OF OUR KIDS!!
Parents are not doing a good job at making sure that their teens doesn't watch their Pay Per View programmings that they order, such as Play Boy, etc... That's why we have evil teens on the streets, because of BAD PARENTING, AND THE NONEXISTENCE OF LAWS COVERING WHAT OUR TEENS SEE AND LISTEN!
