A Run On Guns: Locals Fear Tighter Gun Control Laws, Sales Up

Get 'Em While You Can!

Hearing reports across the country of folks dashing to the nearest gun store to purchase pistols and impractical assault-ish rifles, I decided to see if Music City is arming itself to the teeth in preparation for a Democratic assault on the Second Amendment.

Whether or not Obama and a Democratic Congress will mean new gun control legislation is beside the point. Perception is reality in America. Local gun stores have seen handguns and AR-15 rifles in particular--a semi-automatic rifle made iconic in Vietnam--fly off the shelves in the days and weeks leading up to the election.

Cindy Arp, owner of Gun City, USA, says sales there have tripled lately. "The Democrats have a lot to do with it," Arp said. "They're all about gun control so we're looking at Clinton years again.

"That plus the economy--the economy gets bad and crime goes up."

"I know I got a lot more interest in things getting banned, like the AR," said East Side Gun Shop owner Bill Bernstein. An AR-15 wholesaler he knows had 200 rifles last Friday. By this week, Bernstein said, he had none.

Now Obama's legislative record indicates that he supported bans on semi-automatic weapons and concealed handguns, but there's little indication that he'll go after your 20-gauge or .30-06, unless it's sawed off. Of course, there was that most unfortunate comment about clinging bitterly to guns and religion.

"Perception is reality in America."
Which the only reason Obama got elected in the first place.
A perception by too many people that he could "save" the economy.
Which is a totally mistaken perception.

Obama will go after, not only the so called assault rifles, but, as his Illinois record indicates, he will go after all types of semi-automatic and pump hunting guns. He will try to ban all the firearms he can get the Democratic congress to go along with. Hopefully there will be enough pro-gun senators and house members to stop him. Write your officials and let them know yourt houghts and that you will find it hard to vote for them if they agree with Obama's gun control agenda.

Wow! I would like to buy some of the guns that are pictured in the article. It says "get them while you can", so where can I get them? Or did you get the picture from a joyce foundation/obama financed anti gun group? Great collection of fully automatic machine guns, some with silencers, even a pistol with a silencer. Is this from Sara Brady's personal collection?

The picture above shows lots of Title II firearms which are not at debate here. Title II firearms are heavily regulated and were NOT the focus of the 1994 omnibus crime bill normally called the 'Assault Weapons Ban'.
The author shows his fundamental misunderstanding when he states that 'but there's little indication that he'll go after your 20-gauge or .30-06, unless it's sawed off.' A 'sawed off' shotgun is a Title II firearm and thus not part of the first 'Assault Weapons Ban.'
There is a misconception in the press that 'Assault Rifles' are somehow machine guns. They are NOT. Rosie O'Donnell, John Edwards, and Barack Obama, have all three been quoted as saying that 'no one needs an AK-47 (or machine gun) to hunt deer'. This underlines a fundamental misunderstanding of what an 'Assault Rifle' was when it had a definition under the 1994 'Assault Weapon Ban' and what a machine gun is. A machine gun will fire more than once per single action of the trigger. All weapons banned under the 1994 'Assault Weapon Ban' would fire at most once per single action of the trigger.
There is no functional difference between what people think are assault rifles and many types of hunting rifles. The modern Browning BAR (hunting rifle - not the automatic rifle from WWII) and Remington 7400 are a couple of good examples. The modern BAR fires once per action of the trigger and takes a detachable magazine. So does an AR15 or an AK-47 clone, FN-FAL, HK-91, etc.(so-called Assault Rifles) The difference between the two is only cosmetic.
But if you asked an anti-gunner or member of the press to look at a photograph of each and ask them which one is the assault rifle, they would always pick the black one that looks very much like a rifle carried by soldiers. The 'hunting rifle' that they do not want to ban has pretty wood furniture and maybe polished blue steel and looks very different from the AR15. Again, I have illustrated here that there is no functional difference.
This point is made painfully clear when reading the verbiage of H.R. 6257 Appendix A 'Centerfire Rifles--Autoloaders'. This is a list of rifles that would be excluded from the new 'Assault Weapon Ban'. These rifles are excluded by name from the ban because their function is EXACTLY the same as that of the rifles that are banned in the resolution. These excluded rifles look like hunting rifles and are not black and evil looking.
The guy who wrote this knew that there were no functional differences but wrote the ban and exclusion list anyway. What hypocrisy?!?!?

@knowledgeable
You are the brightest one yet. It's good to see intelligence exists. It's not bias, it's intellect people.
The reason H.R. 6257 slips in uncanny exclusions is because of lobbyists. Those same evil ones that you all pay for to do "dirty deeds" - do "dirty deeds" on both sides. A resolution and/or bill is presented that generally has been hashed out by at least two opposing parties (say Handgun Inc or whoever Brady goes by and the NRA). They both have paying members to please and they both have loyal legislators. Thus, an extreme (or ANY) bill may be presented BUT to get it passed they slip in "fine print" to make the other side happy. You will find it in EVERY bill ever passed.
So, next time you buy milk (Dairy Farmer's), cigarettes (Tobacco lobby), alcohol, beer..insurance, medicine, education, lumber, sports or concert tickets, or subscribe to cable or sat, ad nauseum - you are paying for someone to lobby for your interests.

"AR-15 rifles in particular--a semi-automatic rifle made iconic in Vietnam."
Not really. Most used fully auto M16s.

"impractical assault-ish rifles"
- Huh? Care to elaborate? I'm willing to bet you know very little about firearms so I'd be interested to learn your definition of "impractical" and what exatly makes a rifle an "assault" or "assaultish"...
Or are you just regurgitating anti gun nonsense?
I'm willing to bet that is the case.

Very interesting info on this article. Is this part of a series? I sense there is so much more data than what is outlined on this text
