Political Secrets Revealed at Red Door Saloon

Posted by Jeff Woods on Mon, Nov 3, 2008 at 9:47 AM

Here’s an update on the crucial state Senate races from Pith in the Wind sources, who are many and strategically placed throughout the land. Mr. Independent Mike Williams is running ahead of Republican Mike Faulk in Democratic Party polling. Apparently, it doesn’t matter whether there’s an “R” next to Williams’ name; he’s that popular in his district. Who knew? Also, Democrat Becky Ruppe is looking good against Ken Yager. But party insiders are worried about Randy Camp, who’s trying to hold John Wilder’s seat for the Democrats against that bulldog ex-Marine Delores Gresham. Bear in mind, though, that Pith became privy to this little bit of intelligence toward the end of a night of revelry at the Red Door Saloon, our new favorite watering hole. Judge its credibility accordingly. But it does seem to jibe with party spending in October. As Tom Humphrey reports in the Knoxville News-Sentinel, the Democratic Party’s largest expenditure was $415,100 smearing Gresham, followed by $262,430 attacking Yager. If tomorrow’s election turns out the way our sources predict, then the Senate will remain deadlocked at 16-16-1. But Democrats should regain operational control because the party turncoat Rosalind Kurita will be replaced by the loyal Democrat Tim Barnes. We hope that's clear to everyone. The only question is, will Joe Haynes and Jim Kyle fight over the speakership?
