I learned three things at last night's St. Crispin's Day award festivities at Cabana, honoring highlights and lowlights in local and state politics over the last year. [1] I learned from the prolific Kleinheider that, just as I suspected, he does indeed blog when he gets up in the morning before brushing his teeth. [2] I learned that a bar full of journalists and politicians without Jeff Woods is a room full of people wondering where Woods is. [3] I learned that an easy way a person with a microphone can get a big reaction from an ideologically diverse political crowd is uttering two simple words: "Eric Crafton."

I was going to Cabana and then--I don't know what happened--I realized at some point that I was sitting at a sticky Formica table and drinking really bad draft beer at Brandon's.

My favorite line, about Bill Hobbs: "He would have been with us today, but when he realized that he was using Arabic numerals on a daily basis, his head exploded."

I'm sorry I couldn't be there to accept your honor.
