Joe the Plumber lays out his gut feelings to Katie
Joe the Plumber may be reluctant to vote Obama, but apparently the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada (exhale) have no such compunction. They've given him a full-throated endorsement. William Hite, general president of the UAJAPPFIUSC—this may win the award for worst acronym ever—endorsed Obama when he was a candidate for the U.S. Senate. Now, in a letter to his union brethren, Hite says Obama is the only candidate to solicit their support.
What seems to have really sealed the deal for the UAJAPPFIUSC is Obama's commitment to replacing or upgrading our waste-water treatment systems—a pipe fitter/plumber's dream contract. Joe the Plumber, on the other hand, expressed worry to Katie Couric over an income tax policy for those making $250,000 and over—a tax bracket he doesn't even belong to. And his invocation ad nauseam has been used to villainize Obama in that regard. This international union of plumbers and pipe fitters, however, sits squarely behind Obama.
