Last spring we wrote about how the man who calls himself Anthony Lucas tried to hijack the Miss TN Latina Pageant by stealing its name and demanding proceeds from the event’s organizers. The half-assed attempt involved registering a similar name—Miss Latina Tennessee—with the Secretary of State’s Office and then leaving threatening messages with Marjorie Weller, who founded and organizes the pageant. Lucas also threatened legal action, though he never followed through on his threats. I ran into Weller last week, and she says that Lucas has dropped his claim, though through intermediaries, he’s indicated that he’d like to help market the event. “Yeah, right,” says Weller. Anyway, the most important thing is that the pageant is back on track for another year of Latina scholarship hopefuls. It’s being held at Vandy’s Blair School of Music and will now include a Miss Princesa Latina division for girls ages 10-14. Good luck to all the contestants!
