Now I’m Sure: Sarah Palin is an Idiot

Earlier this week, I offered the notion that Sarah Palin just might be stupid. Please allow me to revise my thesis. Sarah Palin is indeed an idiot. Last night’s debate was like watching one of my kids deliver a speech for a middle school class. Regardless of what question was asked, our hero would launch into a series of pre-programmed mini-scripts, entirely void of detail, insight, or command. It was as if one of my daughters crammed really hard for a speech on Latin American history. I’d feel proud that she could memorize so many words, that she was brave enough to speak before so many people, that she was beginning her introduction to this fascinating thing called the world. Yes, I would be very pleased by this everyday triumph in a young girl’s life. No, I would not want her to be the vice president. It was almost surreal watching the talking heads afterward. They dissected the debate as if we’d all just witnessed legitimate policy discourse. As if we hadn’t just seen this cute-as-a-bug lady babble on with rhetoric shoved into her by aides over past few days. There was no hint that she actually knew what she was talking about, that she could offer any of her own thoughts beyond vague sloganeering. She was just painting by numbers, hoping against hope that she wouldn’t get caught having to think for herself, that the discussion would never stray so far that she didn’t have a memorized index card to employ in response. Vote for her if you will. She seems a nice enough lady. But if something happens to McCain, and Palin’s forced to negotiate America’s case with Wall Street, or to halt the development of nukes by the nutbags in Iran, are you really going to feel comfortable when someone says, “Hey, let’s just send the lady vague mastery of cue cards to handle this!”

Thanks so much for saying this. Why is this the only forum I've seen point out the same absurd responses she gave last night? I can't believe she can be taken seriously at all. She almost never answered the question asked. It was absurd. I have a 3 year old, when she poops in her potty rather than craps her pants we clap for her.
Is this the same thing we are seeing in the media over this "performance" by Sarah Palin?
Love ya Scenesters!

Pete: I am, by no means, a Sarah Palin fan, but I think an opportunity to say something important about Sarah Palin's performance was lost in your hyperbole.

Indeed this woman is clueless. She's simply Alice in Wonderland intent on seeing just how long others hallucinate before she wakes up. Recall the beauty contest winner who babbled on about maps last year but with a whine of an accent.

Yes she is an idiot...but she is also narcissistic, shallow, self-serving and arrogant idiot. How can anyone that obviously ignorant of the world, foreign affairs, history, geography, so vapid....cannot even tell a reporter what she reads..... be ready to be commander in chief? Her utter lack of self-awareness about her shallowness but her ability to sell the voters the distortions and lies with her folksy, "common person" charm is what is so incredible. Since she is so aware of the world as an "executive" and business owner let me ask Sarah Plain this question. Would you higher your friendly, folksy, smiling junior manager at your local pizza shop to be the CEO of Apple Computer? Think about the past 8 years, total incompetence running the company called America... has led to the stock in America crashing...McCain/Palin promises more of the same because she is all style over substance. McCain must value that, he picked her. We need thoughtfulness...not more Attention deficit disorder in the white house!

How would she be any different from Obama? He doesn't have as much experience as her.
Wacky election process.

Sarah Palin is the epitomoy of ignorance. She is not ready to lead a country. What bugs me most is that the WHOLE damn family races to the stage everytime she makes an appearance. Seeing an eight-year-old lugging that baby on her hip is also abhorring. Her husband looks like a criminal. I'd hate to see HIM in the White House. You think Bill Clinton was bad? What about the little knocked-up fifteen-year-old daughter and her boyfriend? He is a self-professed redneck; couldn't he have thought of a better description for himself, say, like...self-professed red-blooded American? Finally, I'm not one to judge but will the new motto of the self-righteous Republicans now be: "Unwed Mothers Hits a New Level, the White House!" No disrespect to Palin or her daughter but: where was Sarah while her daughter was off rolling in the hay with her boyfriend? What message will this negative situation have on teenagers all over America? We are sending a very bad message to our children. Okay, I'm off the soapbox now...

It was almost surreal watching the talking heads afterward. They dissected the debate as if we’d all just witnessed legitimate policy discourse.
As Gail Collins wrote in her column today:
"The people boosting Palin's triumph were not celebrating because she demonstrated that she is qualified to be president if something ever happened to John McCain. They were cheering her success in covering up her lack of knowledge about the things she would have to deal with if she wound up running the country."
In other words, the women's movement has taken a gigantic step backwards and no one seems to have noticed.

In GOD you trust, but can you trust Sarah Palin? Firstly let me say how absolutely shocked I am in her nomination as McSame's VP. Forgetting experience (that is a whole other debate) it is her utter lack of substance on almost any matter that baffles me. She keeps on talking about Joe Sixpack, the american dream, how she loves all things american but she clearly fails to talk equally with such passion about anything that might be expected of a VP such as foreign relations or more importantly finance, she keeps refferring those back to John McCain, the maverick who knows it all, what if he dies tomorrow Sarah? Then we have you, and you appear (from your interviews) to be rubbish at all that.
Did John McCain actually interview her before he nominated her, one would think with all his experience he should have chosen better, but maybe he just called her and asked, who knows, bet you are sorry about that one now John McSame?
I am not an american, I live in the UK, and I can tell you the concensus is that people are afraid of the prospect of this woman being the president. The most influential woman in the world, and she has no idea, none whatsoever, the evidence is all there for all to see, just look at her interviews, she lacks substance.
May the 4th of November see Obama as the new president, if not GOD help us all.
