The Tennessee Democratic Party Needs to Work on its Corruption

Dan Rostenkowski: This guy understood how to strong-arm people State Senator Rosalind Kurita (D-Clarksville) has a legitimate beef. A few weeks ago, the Tennessee Democratic Party threw out her 19-vote primary win over Tim Barnes. Though they won’t offer this as an official reason, party bigs are pissed at Kurita for selling out to Republicans to better her personal Senate status. Call it old school enforcement: The Dems feel they must show the rank-and-file that there will be blood for treachery. Kurita has naturally chosen to sue pretty much everyone involved, leading to a protracted battle involving mean little lawyers hurling large amounts of paperwork and billable hours at each other. Though such methods of dispute resolution are surely a sign of civilization decline, we’ll save that for another day. The bigger issue is this: Democrats really suck at corruption these days. Simply overthrowing a vote – not even in secret, mind you – is so Brezhnev. Where’s the originality? Where’s the cleverly brutal smiting of one’s enemies through vicious yet impenetrable means? Couldn’t Democrats have found a way to simply dump a few key ballot boxes in the river? Perhaps offered Kurita a no-show job in Gov. Bredesen’s administration, only to renege after she resigned her Senate seat? That’s what Dan Rostenkowski would have done. He surely wouldn’t have left it all to dueling lawyers, which is like settling a vendetta with a winner-takes-all tennis match. I don’t know about you, but if I’m going to vote for a low-life, I expect him to be a respectable low-life, the kind who can take out treachery with no visible sign of blood on his hands. Doesn’t the Tennessee Democratic Party respect craftsmanship anymore?

Get real. This woman cheated. She and Ramsey cut a deal on this election a long time ago. "Vote for me, Ros, and you won't get a Republican opponent. Don't worry about the Democrats. I'll take care of them." Ramsey raised money for her. He got Republicans to turn out for her. And everyone knows what a bully she is. She bullied poll workers into misleading her opponent's supporters. And she bullied her way into a polling place on election day, which, by the way, is a crime. She's just pitching a fit because she got caught, and now she wants some lawyers to bail her out.

Not that anyone is surprised, but the Nashville Scene is contradicting itself. Remember? Jeff Woods lauding the decision to kick her to the curb...and now this? Imagine our surprise at the paragon of journalism being inconsistent.

The whole election is a constantly moving target.

I hear you, JJ, but I never knew there was a rule that we all had to speak in lockstep. Just in case it isn''t clear, here's the mission statement of Pith in its entirety: "We all hereby reserve the right to disagree with Jeff Woods."

I am a Democrat of the Democratic Party, and I do not agree with our Democratic Party representatives in Washington.
Many of us are now ashamed to be Democrats. More than that, we have come to fear our own Democratic Party. Hatred and corruption - the roots of socialism - are on the march as they have never been before, and leading this march is our Democratic Party. Increasingly, mainstream Democrats are uncomfortable with what they are seeing in our party. All the more, we know it is dangerous.
We as Democrats are marching in a parade with people Harry Truman or even Jack Kennedy would not recognize - socialist (also know as progressives) who think that Western civilization began in 1969. Strangely, without meaning to, we the mainstream Democrats find ourselves representing this socialist movement. However, for the socialist within our Democratic Party, there is nothing so strange about it. Socialists have always sought to leverage corruption for the sake of power.
Without doubt a large majority of our Democratic Party representatives in Washington are tainted by corruption, and the liberals among us are supporting the ideologies of progressives with their agendas based on moving our Nation deeper into a socialist form of government. This is a real threat to everything we hold sacred in America, and they are gaining evermore control over our Democratic Party, our Nation, and the American people.
As a result, our Democratic Party has already lost the equivalent of every member we have acquired over the past seven years or more, and many of them are now supporting the tea party. More importantly, a recent Newsweek cover declared, "We are all socialists now."
Meanwhile our middle-class families are looking for more than empty promises. They want to go back to work. And they want our Democratic Party representatives who run Washington to stop pursuing a big government, big spending agenda that includes a government takeover of health care, stimulus bills, a new national energy tax and taxpayer-funded bailouts.
In spite of everything our Democratic Party representatives in Washington will borrow $1.6 trillion this year, or about $15,000 for every household in the country. Over the next 10 years our federal government is expected to borrow an additional $8.5 trillion, and this is on top of the 12 trillion we currently owe. These figures are beyond being enormous, especially since we already pay one in seven dollars in interest.
Thank you, and God bless America
Eric Pearson, Democratic Party candidate for US Congress in the 5th district, Tennessee.
