Dick Cheney Part II: Palin Uses Private Email to Avoid Open Records Laws?

She's beginning to look at lot like Dick Cheney The Tennessean has a story today from the Associated Press about a hacker snaking his way into Sarah Palin's email account. It appears that Yahoo's methods for guaranteeing privacy don't work well for the famous, and suspicion is now being cast on David Kernall, son of state Rep. Mike Kernell (D-Memphis). Now that the FBI is rooting around, we're guessing his little Internet joy ride isn't so fun after all. But getting hacked isn't the biggest angle to the story. It happens to thousands of people each day. The more revealing part comes at the end. To quote the Associated Press:
The break-in of Palin's private account is especially significant because Palin sometimes uses nongovernment e-mail to conduct state business. Previously disclosed e-mails indicate her administration embraced Yahoo accounts as an alternative to government e-mail, which could possibly be released under Alaska's Open Records Act. At the time, critics of Palin's administration were poring over official e-mails they had obtained from the governor's office looking for evidence of improper political activity.
If true, her conduct seems to be eerily similar to that of Dick Cheney, who famously refused to reveal who counseled him on energy policy -- that worked out well, didn't it? -- and is now being sued so he'll release his papers upon leaving office. In an Orwellian twist of logic, it seems the vice president is claiming that vice presidents aren't actually part of the executive branch, so his papers should be private. Question: Don't these guys know they're at least supposed to pretend they work for the people, and that the people may want to scrutinize their work at some point?

The New York Times had a big story on this last Sunday. It is no secret that Palin and the officials in her administration have routinely used private e-mail accounts so they won't have to turn over records of how they made decisions.

It's no secret? To whom? Where are these emails? I want to see them. Sloppy journalism. Today's reporters for AP are either stupid or they are biased to the left. There was a time when people actually waited for FACTS before they went to press. This Dan Rather style of journalism makes me sick.

Actually, Young Kernell's illegal hack (assuming it was indeed the son of democrat Mike Kernell) has proven to be a bust for both the NYT and the Palin haters who continue to try and smear the Alaska governor without a shred of proof. There was NOTHING in those e-mails, repeat NOTHING that would indicate she was doing government business on a private account. The Cheney analogy is lame beyond words. Not that you would care of course.
On the other hand, where is the vetting of Barak Obama? Huh? Mr. Chicago Machine Man, who, with the help of communist domestic terrorist Bill Ayers, wasted 100 million dollars through the Chicago Annenberg Challange. Ayers was just some guy in the neighborhood...yeah Right. And he never heard a single GD America shout and hollar out of Jeremiah Wright in the twenty years he sat in the pew. No, never ever. Yeah uh huh.
Next time I hear a partisan democrat mention WATERGATE, or WARRENTLESS WIRETAP or RIGHT TO PRIVACY, I think I'll just have to break out laughing hysterically.

Kotz may think Palin looks like Cheney because he is in need of a good opthamologist. Or, it could just be because his head is inserted where there is very little light.

Hey Verner,
How do you know what is and isn't in Palin's Yahoo email account, and whether it includes government work or not? Really -- how do you know? Sources please?

The hacker himself on the /b/ forums at 4chan stated there was nothing incriminating in the emails.

Yeah Tanya. Nothing, nada. All the little nasties at gawker had to make fun of was a request from one of Gov. Palin's friends for prayer. She had a yahoo account for the same reason millions of us do. She wanted a quick way to share photos and short personal messages with family and friends. The Democrats are simply using this to yet again try and lynch her over a non-issue.
Which is why I think the writer of this blog should change the name. Pith implies wit. A column that proves to be just another outlet for rehashed DNC talking points is not Pithy. Piffle in the Wind is more like it.
And for those of you who are still following this story, Sharon Cobb reports that young Kernell has hired an attorney.

So let me get this straight -- you're relying solely on the word of the guy who supposedly hacked Palin's email (a crime), and nothing else? Some guy -- and it's yet to be proven he did the hacking -- said he found nothing, and that's proof positive for you? My God, you people will simply believe anything. Including, apparently, what some CRIMINAL says on an Internet post, assuming that's the hacker. Wow - congrats. Pat yourselves on the back.

Hm, a story with significant Tennessee connections, and The Tennessean carried the story from the AP? A good reminder of why I don't read the Tennessean.
