Alleged Scumbag of the Week: Laletha Nichols

When Laletha Nichols discovered that her 13-year-old son had swiped a purse at the Greyhound Bus station on Eighth Avenue, she did what any decent mother would do. She took a credit card out, went to the Wal-Mart on Nolensville Road and Old Hickory, and spent $105, according to affidavits filed with the county clerk. She also allowed her 17-year-old daughter to use the card, which must have taught her children a powerful lesson about the value of sharing.
This all happened on July 31, but Nichols was arrested this week and charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, fraudulent use of a credit card, forgery and theft of property. Because her son is a minor, both his name and any charges he might face have not been made public.
Perhaps the Nichols children will learn another lesson from their mother: Crime pays, just not very well, and you may have to spend time in jail.
