Boots Donnelly is Doing Wonderfully: Thanks for Asking

On Friday, I received a call from Boots Donnelly, the former football coach at MTSU and one of the most likable figures in Tennessee athletics. The coach was the subject of an entry from our recent reader contest: "You are so Nashville if...you are disappointed in Boots Donnelly for going bankrupt." The premise of the joke, to the extent there was one, is that Nashvillians may confuse their Boots -- the upstanding, financially secure Donnelly with the roguish, debt-laden Del Biaggio. Unfortunately for the good Boots, friends and admirers have called up the old ball coach and tactfully inquired about his bank account, unaware of the putative hilarity of our reader contest. Anyhow, the coach says he's doing just fine and nicely asked if we'd print his letter to clear up any misunderstanding. We're happy to oblige. Dear Readers, A recent “You are so Nashville if” contest entry stated that I am bankrupt. I am told this was meant to be a joke purposefully confusing myself with “Boots” Del Biaggio. Since the entry was published, I have received numerous phone calls from family, friends, and acquaintances expressing their concern for my financial well-being. For the record, my wife and I are far from wealthy, but we ain’t broke. My wife says that we should simply reassure everyone that we are solvent in order to stop the phone calls, but I would rather pose a question that’s been nagging me: If you people seriously thought I was broke, why didn’t you offer me any money? Sincerely, Boots Donnelly

Dear Nashville Scene - I am a Professor of Aerospace at MTSU and I am trying to contact Coach Donnelly. One of the Coach's former players is now an active duty USAF Fighter Pilot. I am writing a free-lance feature article on the pilot and wanted to talk to the Coach about him. Can you help?
