You want it; you got it. Here is Pedro Garcia's scathing memo alleging a racially polarized school system. We would have published it yesterday when we first received it, but we thought The Tennessean would jump on it right away. Turns out, they didn't think it was much of a story to start. The staff at Brookemeade felt that closing their school was unnecessary because white kids now attending private schools would return to their neighborhood school.
Oh, the HORROR! Let's definitely stop that. We wouldn't want to risk raising our NCLB scores by having qualified students back in our schools! No, it's more important to bus kids from across town, away from their communities, push the middle class out of the district and watch the system sink further into ruin. Thanks Mr. Kindall, that sounds like a plan - for the continued failure you have personally overseen for the last 28 years on the school board.

Thanks for printing this in its entirety. Makes the previous School Board, which was reported to be dysfunctinal, look like a tea party.

It's disappointing to see the Scene editors helping to fan these flames. Who places any credibility in Pedro Garcia? The Scene has previously been hostile to this man - now, when he might help stir up a sensational story, the Scene is hanging on his every word? The task force has made its plans and revisions to those plans public for months, and has conducted extensive public hearings. The process has been completely up front. For Ed Kindall to invoke the ghost of Pedro Garcia in a last minute attempt to derail a credible process and paint those who volunteered time and energy to this task force and the school board as backhanded, racist plotters is outrageous and disgusting. I can only hope that the board doesn't let this type of "skullduggery" and bullying prevail tonight. Pith writers, I hope you notice the deafening silence with which your "shocking" updates are being met. No one else is naively falling for this crap except you.

Thank you very much. Now can you post the next one dated Feb.5? And do you know how many more there are?
