Immigration End of an Era

El Dos de Oros, the Murfreesboro Road nightclub immortalized in this Scene cover story, has closed its doors. Don Hagen, who owns the building that until last month housed the club, says he was overwhelmed by the club’s success. “It was packed three nights a week,” he says, adding that the folks who ran the club pulled out because it became too much work. Hagen, whose family has owned the building for more than 30 years, has already lined up some new tenants and says it will remain a place that caters to the Hispanic community.
“Those people are the best customers,” he says of his dealings with the immigrant community. “They are good people who always pay on time and treat this place with respect."
He adds, "And they drop the cash.”
