So, our peeps have reported back to us about last night's big 'do for John McCain at Mike Curb's adobe hut. The only thing more impressive than the square footage of his place off Hillsboro Road were the crowd and deep pockets. In addition to the political venture capitalists, the usual GOP brat pack attended—Fred Thompson, Bill Frist, Winfield Dunn and Chip Saltsman, who is back in town after making Mike Huckabee more of a presidential contender than anyone ever thought he could be.
By the way, consensus among the chattering classes is that Frist will tap Saltsman to run his 2010 gubernatorial campaign.
Best guesses about what he raised here in Nashville last night? We'll start the bidding at $400,000.
