Cold Water

Posted by Bruce Barry on Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 2:24 PM

In remarks late last week at a Germantown breakfast for Democrats, liberals, progressives and related species, Al Gore’s longtime adviser and confidant Roy Neel threw what he called “cold water” on speculation that Gore still might ride to the rescue of a fractured Democratic party. Writing for Time last week, Joe Klein quoted unnamed party insiders calling Gore-Obama as “the ticket a lot of people wanted in the first place" and asserting that "this could be our way out of a mess." But at last Friday's “Kitchen Cabinet” gathering, Neel predicted with certainty and without ambiguity that the nominee will be Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton. Inspired by Grover Norquist's regular series of power breakfasts for D.C. conservatives, Nashville investment banker Matt Wiltshire and attorney Jeff Yarbro launched Kitchen Cabinet earlier this year as a monthly forum for an early morning blue-tinged schmooze-n-speaker over eggs, biscuits and coffee.
