Dear Bob Tuke,
Hey Bob, it's Matt. I hope you're doing well. Do you remember me? I left you two voice mails about Gus Puryear
, figuring that you'd have something interesting to say about him. Not just because you're running against—in theory at least—Sen. Lamar Alexander, who has championed Puryear, but also because you know Puryear as an attorney. But it's been a few weeks now, and you haven't returned my call. What's wrong? Is it me? I thought I’d try to reach you on our blog. Who knows, maybe I'm on to something here, and the next time some second-tier newsmaker ignores our messages, we'll just write to them online.
So, I'm wondering if you're not returning my call because you like Puryear but just don't want to go on the record saying so, given that you're hoping to win the Democratic primary. Maybe you think saying something nice about a GOP golden boy could hurt your chances. If that's the case, Bob, that's unfortunate. Part of running for office is taking a stance on important, relevant issues, and your take on Puryear could provide voters with a decent sense on your view of what makes a good judge. Anyway, if you want to talk, call me at 844-9403. Until then, we'll be in touch here.
