Ridley Me This: Oscar Preview

Posted by Steve Haruch on Fri, Feb 22, 2008 at 1:53 PM

Mr. Pink, a.k.a. Jim Ridley, was a rock star on Channel 2 News at 10 last night. No surprise, Jim made us all look good as he waxed eloquently and humorously about the Oscar nominees. Like the other slobs in the Best Actor category with Daniel Day-Lewis, the panel of critics appearing alongside Jim knew they were just lucky to be sitting in his shadow, even if he doesn't like Juno.

Calling someone else a slob in a blog post about Jim Ridley is a lot like the Pot blogging eloquently about how black the Kettle is.
But I do enjoy being reminded how awesome the Scene is in its own mind.
Why don't you guys go shakedown another bookstore?

Steve, plenty of people (like myself) are big fans of Jason Shawhan's and Ron Wynn's film criticism too, you know. I share your man-crush on Mr. Pink, but c'mon...

There was no slight intended toward anyone else on the panel. It was an attempt, however lame and hyperbolic, at humor. Ridley as Day-Lewis? Naw, you c'mon....

Some of us (ahem) just read them in a fit of teeth-gnashing envy and plot their demises to get them out of the way. But hey, whatever works for you.

No kidding. Although I confess I thought I totally rocked that button-shirt/recently-washed-jeans ensemble.

Why bother. Everybody knows print media are dead.

It's certainly up there, although the underrated (and largely unseen) Margot at the Wedding has just as strong an ensemble. The Savages has an excellent script, too. One person who really got robbed of a nomination: Philip Bosco, who plays the dad.
