Last night’s meeting of Metro Council’s Public Safety Committee on the matter
of those laptops (containing voter data) pinched from the Davidson County Election Commission gave council members a televised opportunity to showcase their outrage. Few took the bait, but council member Vivian Wilhoite of Antioch apparently swallowed it whole, to judge by this astonishing comparison. (We render her comments here verbatim.):
“We’re going to have to do what is needed and necessary to protect those folks whose information has been compromised. We’ve got to do that. I don’t know if we can say that there is no cost to us doing that. I think that would be frivolizing this. This is about a comparison to a degree the fact that we haven’t lost lives, but this almost close to something like 9/11. We haven’t lost lives, but we have actually put people’s lives at jeopardy.”
No word on whether Rudy Giuliani had a role in coaching Wilhoite’s approach.
