Karl Dean took in $604,515 in contributions for his mayoral candidacy in less than a month since the Aug. 2 election, his campaign announced today. That beats Bob Clement's haul by $100,000. Dean didn't spend any more of his own money, his campaign said. Before the Aug. 2 election, he poured $625,000 of his family wealth into the race.
"Our voter support continues to grow, and the momentum is definitely carrying over to our fundraising efforts," Dean said. "I am very grateful to the many, many people who have stepped up to help. Raising more than $600,000 in less than a month is quite a feat, and a real indication of the team effort we are getting countywide."
Update: The Dean campaign says the candidate has put $950,000 of his own money into his campaign, not $625,000 as we reported above. None of that has been given since the Aug. 2 election. In all, Dean has taken in $2.085 million, including that money from himself. Clement has raised $1.87 million since the campaign began.
