Clement: 'Damn That Water's Cold'

Sixty preachers endorsed Bob Clement today for mayor. Among their number: L.H. Hardwick, brother-in-law of Clement's wife Mary and pastor of Nashville's Christ Church. That's the large Pentecostal congregation that the Clements attend. Many of the church's members speak in tongues and believe in faith healing. Clement himself isn't believed to be quite that spiritual. According to one of the church's pastors, when Clement was baptized in the 1970s, he stepped in the pool and cried, "Damn, that water's cold!" To which, the preacher said, "Bob, I don't know if you're ready for this baptism or not."
