Admit it: you've been wanting to sample "the sweet taste of liberty in your mouth" without ending up in some food-service-industry Gitmo. Now there's a way to put your patriotism where your esophagus is. Support Vanderbilt's 91 Rock from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Ben & Jerry's on 21st Avenue South, as WRVU's Liberadio(!), Nashville's liberal talk-radio show, mobilizes its forces for a station fundraiser.
For those two hours, B&J's manager Joe Bullock will be whipping up special sundaes featuring the new flavor Stephen Colbert's AmeriCone Dream (TM), with a percentage of sales going to the student-run station. From the Liberadio(!) site:
The one-time only menu item created for the event, Stephen Colbert's Freedom Sundae Spectacular, features a fudge-coated waffle cone bowl, with two scoops of vanilla ice cream seated firmly to the Right, a Liberal amount of fluffy whipped cream to the Left, with crushed waffle cone pieces and caramel on top. You want nuts with that? Not on this sundae. There's already too many nuts on both sides of the aisle.
Zing! Liberadio(!) hosts Mary Mancini and Freddie O'Connell will also be on hand to dispense cherries of wisdom with the mix-ins of peace, love and understanding. No word on whether the mighty Colbeagle will appear. Fans of both Colbert and Liberadio(!) know that Mancini's brother Bob is head coach of the Saginaw Spirit, the junior hockey team that
The Colbert Report has adopted as an item of ongoing concern. There is some controversy as to which came first: the Colbeagle that adorns Liberadio(!)'s website, or Saginaw Spirit mascot Steagle Colbeagle the Eagle.
Listen for more details 7 a.m. Monday on Liberadio(!), 91.1 FM. O'Connell said that a friend saw the press release about the event and "thought it sounded like something out of
The Onion." It wouldn't be the first time.
