I've just returned from a sneak peak at "Matisse, Picasso and The School of Paris" at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts, and, like Pacman's glove compartment, it's worth investigating. The Matisse is vividly colorful, and the Gauguin sensuous. On loan from the Baltimore Museum of Art, this exhibit is part of the Cone Collection, named for two Baltimore sisters who were early collectors of Matisse, Picasso and the rest. Unfortunately, the sisters didn't like Picasso's badass cubist stuff, so that's missing from the exhibit, but what is on hand is quite expressive. Speaking of Picasso, a thief in Paris this week stole two of the master's paintings worth
$66 million. Police describe the suspect as an angular little guy with a nose sticking out of the side of his head.
