Man's Trendiest Best Friend

Posted by on Wed, Jan 24, 2007 at 2:05 PM

The American Kennel Club released its 2006 Annual report of Dog Trends in American Cities, and man oh man is it an exciting read.

Los Angeles exhibits a love for purse dogs with the Pomeranian, Min-Pin, Pug and Maltese dominating the list.

New York City remains totally out of touch with the rest of the country with the most Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and a fluffball called the Havanese. Probably because they look good with power suits.

Atlanta also lists Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. What's going on? Is this because of that one Sex and the City episode where Charlotte buys King Charles because her marriage is falling apart?

Washington D.C jumps on the Chow Chow bandwagon for some unknown reason.

Memphis lives up to its "Detroit of the South" title with German Shepherds in #2 and Rottweilers in #4, but signs are pointing to yuppie with the #7 Poodle and #9 Shih Tzu.

Nashville prefers the down-to-earth dog set, with Miniature Schnauzers, Boxers, Dachshunds and Huskies keeping our furniture and sweaters covered in fur.

As for overall trends, the Yorkshire Terrier passed the Golden Retriever and the German Shepherd to snag the #2 most popular breed spot, right behind the Labrador Retriever.
