While you're at it, go to see the Nashville Opera Company next week. They're doing two children-friendly one act operas, so it won't be a late night. The first is a comfortable old shoe, Menotti's Amahl and the Night Visitors
, a Christmas fable about the relationship of Christ to the poor. Amahl
is touching without being sentimental, and it has some truly gorgeous music. The other is Ravel's seldom performed but delightful fantasy L'Enfant et les Sortileges
in which an unruly child is brought to terms by a room full of singing, dancing furniture and a garden of singing animals. It's all good fun-- the kids will love it-- and Ravel's music shimmers.
Performances are at Schermerhorn on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8:00 and Sunday at 3:00. Ticketmaster has tickets.
