Rile up a few Catholics, what's the dif. But Liz "The Human Pincushion" Garrigan has really stepped into a hornet's nest with this weeki߽s column, where she takes on the burning issue of our times: whether Taylor Hicks deserves to be the American Idol. I have no dog in this fight: I don't watch the show, mainly because I can't stand to hear all that screechy overemoting that passes for singing. (TLC's Sports Disasters is more my speed, or at least less scary than an hour in Paula Abdul's company.) But the level of hate mail this piece is generating is--well, extreme even for Liz recently. Somebody wanna explain the Taylor phenomenon?
