...in this weeks Scene
(I'm guessing this won't be a regular feature) is a comment in the sports column
discussing Vanderbilt's win over Mississippi last Saturday:
When the Rebels' quarterback clumsily faked an injury to stop the clock, and everyone but the imbecile SEC refs saw it, I was sure that Vandy was headed for a tie game and overtime defeat.
True, Ole Miss QB Michael Spurlock did drop to his knees with a broken finger rather than run off the field, which did stop the clock. But "faked an injury"? He immediately left the game for the locker room - leaving the Rebels to play a cold backup QB for the crucial final drive in place of a senior quarterback having a career day
. And to drive home the deception, Spurlock later underwent surgery
and returned to practice this week in a cast. Give that man an Oscar!
