A news release this morning announces that the Southern Christian Leadership Conference
has endorsed the TennCare sit-in at Gov. Phil Bredesen's office, now in its fourth day. Memphis SCLC chapter president Dwight Montgomery calls the actions by protestors at the capitol "courageous and a moral necessity" and says it's "essential that clergy stand with those who continue the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King and the power of the Civil Rights movement."
The release says Montgomery will join the sit-in on Monday; national SCLC president Charles Steele "also hopes to join...and is currently arranging his schedule."
